Laize Gomes

Junior Application Analyst | Department: Technical Applications | São Paulo, Brazil

What is your job at KHS?

I am a Junior Application Analyst in the Technical Applications Department at KHS in São Paulo in Brazil. In this position I analize the incoming project calls for proposals. The aim of the projects is to adapt and develop new beverage manufacturing processes. I am responsible for analyzing the project requests and then proposing the best solution. For this, I contact the suppliers in order to identify the main possible improvements for the customer. The laboratory testing phase is completed before final delivery. When the tests are finished and the results are positive, we present the final offer (pricing) to the client.

The daily work in our department is so dynamic that we do not have a fixed daily routine. Each day is a new discovery, a new challenge, and a new opportunity to learn more. The payoff is not only professional development, but intellectual and personal development as well.

What did you do before you came to KHS?

Before coming to KHS, I worked in a chemistry lab where I was able to develop my skills in analysis and testing. This gave me the necessary background to help my current department at KHS to continuously develop new applications in process technology. I then chose to work for KHS – among other things because of its impressive market position, networking possibilities and world supply level. These factors enable me to gain valuable experience and to develop myself further.

Why did you choose your profession?

My first contact with chemistry was in high school. It was my favorite subject and since then I had no doubt that I wanted to pursue a career in this area. I took a technical course in chemistry before graduate school on the recommendation of my teacher at the time. At the end of the course, I decided to enroll in graduate school. Currently, I am only 6 months away from graduating.

During my professional career, I have had the opportunity to work in several different areas, which allowed me to understand to what I had the most affinity and interest in working on. This was also helpful to cast aside what I did not identify with. My first contact with the process area was during my internship at KHS. I enjoyed being constantly challenged by having to reinvent and build new processes that meet different requirements.

Which challenges does your job have?

The biggest challenge of my job is to develop new things all the time. We need to research, propose and discover new applications to serve the customers in the best possible way. Besides it is challenging that each project is different from the other. We always try to find the distinctive characteristics of each specific client - this makes KHS unique!

“I am very grateful to have found a job at KHS that suits my interests and preferences.”

How do you manage to be happy in your job in the long term?

By working in a field that I enjoy! I think the best decision in my work-related career was focusing on a field that suits my interests and preferences. I am very interested in chemical engineering and fortunately my position is closely related to that. I am very grateful to have found this compatibility in my current days at KHS.

What are you doing beside your job?

I like to study, so in addition to my job, I am studying chemical engineering and Spanish. I am always looking to improve myself and become more capable every day. I chose to learn Spanish because of the high demand that KHS has been having from the Latin American sector, so I will ultimately end up having a lot of contact with clients and interns from KHS Colombia itself. As soon as an opportunity arises to collect data for the development of projects in the region, I will be ready for the challenge.

Besides using my free time to improve my professional performance, I like to take my daughter to the park, discover new things and have time with my family.
