“The fascinating products and the opportunity to work with colleagues coming from all over the world are the reasons why I chose KHS in the first place.”
I am a Training Manager at KHS China. My typical tasks are mainly offer preparation, customer training arrangement and execution, local training resources development, and in-house training planning and coordination.
I have a bachelor’s degree in Food Science and Engineering and a master’s degree in Food Science. With this educational background, I could also work in a food company’s research and development or in the food additive industry, for example as a developer of new formulas for infant milk powder. I also could start in government agencies analyzing the content and quality of foods on the market. I still chose to work in the filling and packaging industry because I myself am a frequent beverage consumer and I think tasty drinks with unique and high-quality packages make people’s life much more colorful. Working in this industry means I positively contribute to providing beer, CSDs, drinking water and other drinks of good quality to the end consumer. At the same time, by working in this industry, I help to upgrade beverage filling and packaging technology into another level, a level that is more environmentally friendly with a lower and lower carbon footprint.
Before joining KHS, I worked for Carlsberg as management trainee. I first came in contact with KHS and its products when I worked on the Carlsberg Dali greenfield project. I was fascinated by the high-quality line machines. During that time, I supported the training interpretation for several KHS German instructors. One instructor was impressed by my interpreting skills and we therefore got to talk about KHS. As I became more and more interested in this company, I decided to apply for a job at KHS in Shanghai and was then offered a job. I think the fascinating products and the opportunity to work with colleagues coming from all over the world are the reasons why I chose KHS in the first place.

The part of my job that I enjoy the most is the opportunity to travel to customer sites in China and abroad. There, I evaluate the instructors’ performances and the results of the customer training, get to know the customer’s feedback, and simultaneously get the chance to experience different cultures.
Moreover, I need to be in constant contact with many functions, from sales, technical sales, project management, to procurement, service, production, finance and controlling, and of course the international training team. It gives me the opportunity to learn how other functions are contributing to the company in daily work.
As training manager, my scope of work primarily involves meeting the needs of our customers in terms of technical training for KHS machines and the development of KHS China employees, especially service engineers. As I have worked on the customer side before, it is easy for me to put myself in the customers’ shoes and identify their needs. My job also inspires me because I constantly have to find new ways to overcome challenges and I am learning new things every day. With clear guidance on some key processes, I have the flexibility and freedom to do my work as I feel comfortable, which I believe is due to the trust that has been built between the company, my supervisor and me.
I would recommend choosing a similar career at KHS if you are interested in keeping an open mind, learning continuously, communicating with people from different backgrounds and professions, being sufficiently autonomous in their daily work, and especially seeing the satisfied smiles of our KHS customers.
I am very interested in different cultures. To get to know and even understand a foreign culture, I think learning a country’s language is crucial. Therefore, I am currently learning Japanese. I am also working on improving my German, which is still at a basic level. As I am very interested in foreign cultures, I also enjoy traveling. I work and live in Shanghai and was born in Xi’an, China and the most distant place I have visited is Sarasota in Florida, USA.
I have recently read the book “The Math of Life and Death – 7 Mathematical Principles That Shape Our Lives” by Kit Yates. In one chapter, the author explains the phenomenon that “time flies faster when people are getting older” from a very interesting perspective. I find it very intriguing that the exact same thing, as simple (or complex) as time itself, can be a very different experience for different people.
