Innovation combines advantages of glass and PET in one bottle
New technology has already been implemented worldwide
Shanghai, August 13, 2015 – KHS will exhibit its innovative InnoPET Plasmax coating technology for the first time in China at the China International Beverage Industry Exhibition on Science & Technology from November 4 – 6, 2015, in Shanghai. This system combines the hygienic and qualitative advantages of glass with the weight advantages of a PET bottle in order to create an innovative and attractive packaging solution for both the industry and the consumer market. KHS will present the Plasmax technology at Booth 1E01 in Hall W1.
“Know-how is our basis, visionary ideas are our drive: this is what KHS stands for and this is what we represent this year at the CBST”, says Prof. Dr.-Ing. Matthias Niemeyer, KHS CEO. The manufacturer of filling and packaging systems for the beverage, food and non-food industries will be showcasing its unique FreshSafe-PET® technology. It provides sensitive beverages, such as CSDs, juice, wine and beer, and also liquid foods with the best possible product protection.
The Plasmax process involves applying an ultra-thin, extremely flexible layer of pure glass (SiOx) in a plasma process. The resulting coating reliably protects the contents by preventing the exchange of substances such as carbon dioxide, oxygen, and flavorings between the product, the packaging and the environment. This special PET bottle treatment significantly increases shelf lives, ensures excellent taste and consistent vitamin content, keeps products fresh for longer periods and provides PET containers with a crystal-clear appearance. Furthermore, the Plasmax process ensures that the ultra-thin (<0.1 µm) glass layer is bonded firmly with the PET under all conditions which means it cannot shatter or break. With regard to sustainability, these coated PET bottles can be fully recycled in the same way as pure PET, bottle to bottle.
KHS has been able to develop the Plasmax coating technology thanks to its long-standing experts. Today, this innovative method is being successfully implemented worldwide: both bottle and container manufacturers as well as bottlers of sensitive and high-quality beverages and foods around the globe have Plasmax coating systems in operation.
One recent example is the Turkish beverage producer Doganay Gida. It is the world's first beverage company to communicate the benefits of FreshSafe-PET® technology directly to consumers under the term CamPET, the Turkish equivalent of GlassPET. According to Rafet Doganay, Doganay Gida CEO, PET Plasmax technology is the perfect solution to keep beverages safe and fresh. Now they are able to serve the market with packaging which is as light as PET and as good as glass.
