KHS GmbH is a global company with over 150 years of experience and one of the leading manufacturers of filling and packaging systems for beverages and liquid food. The German company was established in 1993 through a merger of Holstein & Kappert AG, founded in Dortmund in 1868, and Seitz-Werke GmbH, founded in Bad Kreuznach in 1887 (later SEN AG). With 5,400 employees, in 2023 KHS realized sales totaling €1.517 billion. KHS GmbH is a wholly owned subsidiary of Salzgitter Klöckner-Werke GmbH.
Core areas of expertise and production sites
KHS develops and manufactures single machines and turnkey lines for the filling and packaging of plastic (PET) and glass containers, beverage cans and kegs. It is headquartered in Dortmund, where its center for sanitizing, pasteurizing, labeling, inspection and conveying technology is also situated. Further specialized plants are found in the following German cities:
- Bad Kreuznach: process and filling technology and kegging systems
- Kleve: secondary packaging systems
- Worms: high-performance palletizers and packers and unpackers
- Hamburg: consultancy services for and production of machines for the manufacture and/or coating of plastic containers.
KHS also operates production facilities in the USA, Mexico, Brazil, India and China and provides local services at over 70 locations. A 24/7 Service HelpDesk and a range of digital services complete the portfolio.
Innovation and sustainability
Under the motto of “your reliable partner”, KHS is at its customers’ side throughout the entire productive life cycle of their machinery, providing innovative and resource-conserving plant engineering. This includes sustainable packaging systems such as plastic containers made of 100% recycled PET. The company's broad portfolio of services includes its Bottles & Shapes program, a future-oriented consultancy service for your PET and glass containers or beverage cans.

- 1868: Holstein & Kappert (H&K) is founded in Dortmund, Germany
- 1879: L.A. Enzinger (later SEN) is founded in Worms, Germany
- 1887: Seitz-Werke (later SEN), is founded in Bad Kreuznach, Germany
- 1977–1982: H&K (100%) and SEN (90%) are taken over by Klöckner-Werke AG from Duisburg, Germany
- 1993: H&K and SEN merge to form KHS Maschinen- und Anlagenbau AG, Dortmund
