KHS Points the Way Forward with 3D Line Design
With powerwall and 3D laser scanning
Line design at KHS has gone 3D! The filling and packaging systems supplier can now offer the beverage, food and nonfood industries even more highlights with powerwall and 3D laser scanning. One of these new advantages is that a system designed in 3D by KHS can now be presented on a large scale using a powerwall. Another is that the customer can experience their future line in the third dimension on a powerwall unlike anywhere else. Just like at a 3D movie, 'theatre-goers' are presented with special glasses that enable them to see in 3D. With the help of what is known as a fly stick, viewers can zoom in on the line displayed on the powerwall, studying it from all sides and from the top and bottom. They can also control the speed at which they observe their future system, taking it fast or slowly, just as they wish. Moreover, they can also pause for a moment to scrutinize individual machines and machine components in greater detail. The perspective is changed simply by turning the head. Imaging in 3D is particularly useful when companies in the beverage, food, and nonfood industries wish to gain a virtual picture of the line they have ordered and planned before it is finished. Any new ideas that may evolve during the process can be quickly integrated into the 3D design and projected onto the powerwall. This ensures maximum safety of investment. Particularly if the building into which the new, 3D-designed system is to be integrated has a number of critical considerations, such as various different heights and levels or numerous recesses in the production shop area, it is advisable that customers recheck their data prior to 3D line design and not rely solely on architectural plans. KHS 3D laser scanning provides maximum precision here. Empty shop floors can be measured just as accurately using 3D lasers as buildings already full of line machinery. Performing a 3D laser scan once the new line technology has been integrated into the factory also has the great advantage of being able to present the company with an as-built documentation at the end of the scanning process. If conversions are planned in the future, or if certain machines are to be replaced, the 3D design is helpful, allowing new ideas to be rapidly integrated into the 3D animation and visualized on the powerwall.
