Petainer Keg in Tschechien als „Verpackung des Jahres 2011“ gekürt

The Petainer keg marketed by KHS and the Petainer company has recently been voted Packaging of the Year 2011 in the Czech Republic.  The certificate was presented to Petainer Czech Holdings s.r.o. by syba, the Czech packaging association, which is a member of the World Packaging Organisation. Dr Felix Wagner, manager of KHS GmbH's competence center for filling and keg technology, explains, "This distinction demonstrates among other things that the Petainer keg is perceived as a keg system of the future.  We at KHS have thought this of the Petainer keg for some time and it was for this reason that we decided to enter into cooperation with Petainer Holdings UK Ltd."  Within this cooperation, KHS supports Petainer Holdings UK Ltd. by providing turnkey filling and packaging systems for Petainer kegs.  KHS is also the sole sales partner for Petainer keg products worldwide. Considering the many advantages the Petainer keg system has to offer, several breweries throughout the world have already opted to use one-way Petainer keg containers.  The two Russian breweries Samko and Lipetskpivo have been pioneers in this respect.  While the Samko brewery was the first to invest in a semiautomatic Petainer keg line worldwide that processes 20-liter kegs, Lipetskpivo relies on the world’s first fully automatic Petainer keg line to rack 30-liter Petainer kegs.  On the Czech market, the Nachod brewery is the pioneer in the Petainer keg sector who recently put a semiautomatic Petainer keg line into operation for 20-liter Petainer kegs. The biggest advantage of the inexpensive, disposable Petainer keg is that it does not have to be returned to the brewery and is also 100% recyclable.  As opposed to the classic refillable steel keg, this reduces the cost of keg washing, logistics, and storage – and, of course, no money is spent on keg repair in the first place.  Moreover, the huge advantage in weight that Petainer kegs have over classic steel kegs makes these containers – empty or racked – much easier to handle during transport and at their final destination in the hospitality and retail trade.  What's more, Petainer kegs come complete with disposable plastic fittings that can be easily connected to existing tapping equipment, so that there is no need for additional investment at the retail end. Petainer kegs together with the fittings can be supplied fully in accordance with the requirements of the respective brewery.  Petainer kegs can also be produced inline directly at the plant by blow molding keg preforms and inserting plastic fittings  both semi- and fully automatically.  The advantages of inline production are that the amount of storage space required for this type of recyclable keg is reduced even further, and that the brewery can react to fluctuations in demand with the utmost flexibility.  Petainer kegs are racked by the Innokeg Till PETBoy F2 - a semiautomatic keg racker equipped with two racking heads that is able to process up to 60 Petainer kegs per hour with extremely low-oxygen pickup.  The semiautomatic racker can be easily extended by adding further racking components and modern robotic technology.  Individual machines can also be incorporated into a fully automatic KHS Petainer keg line at a later date.  "Those who first want to test the market acceptance of Petainer kegs and leave their options open as to whether to upgrade to a fully automatic system at a later stage are definitely ‘on the safe side’ with an initial investment in an Innokeg Till PETBoy F2," Wagner says.  The new Petainer USD keg - first presented to the general public at Brau Beviale 2011 - enables those who are new to the Petainer concept and who rack only small quantities to run 20 and 30-liter, non-returnable PET containers on their existing steel keg lines. When using the Petainer keg, maximum product safety is a given, ensured by the use of cutting-edge barrier technologies.  Scavenger material integrated into the Petainer keg prevents oxygen from penetrating the container.  Pigments in the polymer also help to guard the contents against infiltration of UV light.  The minimum shelf life of beer racked in a Petainer is nine months – and thus directly comparable to the minimum shelf life of beer sold in traditional steel kegs.
